Welcome to the Internet's first and only website dedicated exclusively to the birds unique to the area of South Texas between the Rio Grande and the Gulf of
Mexico.
The world over, birds are beautiful to watch and hear. The more than 9,600 species provide opportunities for any alert watcher. Who does not thrill to see the darting flash of
color of a hummingbird or kingfisher? Who does not stop when captivated by the repertoire of a mockingbird, a nightingale, or an Australian superb lyrebird.
Bird-watching (birding, as it
is commonly called in the United States) is the observation of wild birds. It can be as vigorous as you decide to make it. You may have no desire to slosh through swamps or climb mountains to find rare
birds. However each year the number of enthusiasts increases. More and more people believe that it is worth the effort.
Many of the birds found in South Texas can be found no where else
in the United States because they are rare Mexican birds that migrate to the area each year. These species include numerous exotics and neo-tropicals. |

Every year, thousands of naturalists converge upon the Rio Grande Valley in search of some of the 465 species which have been sighted in the area.
Within these pages you find information on these rare birds, the natural refuges where they can be found, as well as tips from veteran birders when to best spot them and their tips for
out-of the way seldom thought of birding sites.
